Publishing Poetry
March 23, 2007
Dear 6th grade,
I was totally floored by the poems I heard you read in English last week. I had no idea you guys were such eloquent and expressive lyricists! Jen and I are extremely proud of you and think your talents should be shared with the world. That’s why this week you will all be publishing your poetry on the blog.
Please type up your favorite poem in an application like Microsoft Word, AppleWorks or TextEdit and then copy and paste your poem into the comment field at the bottom of this post. Remember to put your first name only!

Here I am today, where tomorrow?
Hear I am today,
Sitting on this rock,
Where will I be tomorrow?
Mabry on a rock,
A rock in another country,
Just like the one I am on today,
Soft and smooth,
On this summer like day

Oranges
Round Juicy spheres,
That sure packs a sugary punch.
First, you must peel, and then enjoy the delight.
Each bite will shoot juice
That’ll tickle your tastebuds.
First comes the sweet, but
Then appears the sour.
After the 2nd wave hits, your face
Clenches tight
And your immediate reaction
Is to take another bite.

Grass Blades
Razorsharp blades that are
Soft to the touch
Looking tall and proud while
Sliceing through the cool wind
Huge green giants to the
Bugs cowering low
So loud in the sun, yet
So helpless in the snow
They sing with the wind
As there edges cut through
The air
Providing a habitat
With such a gentle care

boring and bright

and skys of blue and whites

I feel like our school and suburbs of El Cerrito, Richmond, Albany, and Berkeley are getting more industrial with all the exhaust given off every day. I feel all the time, I want to go back to the 40’s and 50’s and live in a cul-de-sac with your friends just a door away, now it’s a phone call and a drive away. The places we eat are like McDonalds and crap like that, then there was a family owned ice cream parlor, the only exhaust then was an mg42 and some camel smokes in 1942.

My Family
My family is very special to me. My sister sometimes gets me mad but I will always love her. My family is always loud and obnoxious. They are always gossiping. She’s getting married, he is pregnant. I say a man can’t get pregnant but they don’t listen to me. They talk so much! And you won’t believe how they act at parties. It’s like seeing animals untamed at the zoo. It’s amazing to see how people act around their family. My family dances at parties too! They just GO CRAZY. When my family is with me I act like this too. Ask E’senz she has been to my and she fit right in. Lizzy heard my mom talking and she said my family was crazy. Cherise thinks my sister talks way to loud. See I have proof. My family will never change and that’s what I like about them. If they do I don’t know what would happen

The sun
Bigger than a planet,
But smaller than a galaxy
Brighter than a smile,
But darker than light
Hotter than lava
But colder than nothing
Without it we die or freeze to death

Candy
Candy is what people love. It makes people hyper. If you eat a lot careful you may jump around or fall. You could get costumes to show what candy you love the most.
Homework
Homework due another day or maybe even two.
It may take hours to finish, it so do it right.
There is projects too, assigned a specific day due two weeks or months when it is due.
Do not rush or it will come out ugly, take your time and do it very pretty to get a good grade.

The City Sleeps
Emma
The City sleeps
And gets smaller
As the
Bird gets higher
And higher
And then bursts
Through the
Atmosphere.
And sees nothing
But darkness encased
In a clear blue box
Veers toward the
Moon then Mars,
Saturn, Jupiter.
And falls through
Getting lower
And lower until
The earth is
Seen for what it is:
A seemingly meaningless
Speck on the
Horizon
As The City Sleeps.
TREES
Emma
I do not understand
Why trees shed
Their leaves in
Winter.
Wouldn’t they get
Cold?
The iciness upon
Their branches without
A winter
Coat.
They’ll sit inside the
Huge ice block,
Maybe an encasement
Of snow,
Until the
Seasons offer
Mercy and shake off
The clear white
Snow.
And then what happens?
Well, they’re cool,
Until summer comes
At least, they have
A nice leafy coat
To shield them from the
Sun.
But summer shows
Its face right then
And flowers start to
Grow, and poor
Old trees,
Their leaves so thick
They should be used for
SNOW.
How can they stand the
Heat, my friend?

That Boy
I love his smile
I love his style.
He makes me smile,
When I’m down and in a frown
He says, “ it is okay”
When I feel bad
He never, ever makes me sad
In time of need i got to him
In time of need he is my kin
I like this guy with all my heart
I Like this guy from end to start
I like this guy as you can see
I like this guy
That boy

The Creepy Hotel
Large but dark
Scary and lonely
Near but boring
Alone and abandoned
Quiet but squeaky
Doors and windows
Squeaky as rats
Cold and too much wind
Old and stinky
Spider webs everywhere
Ants crawling from wall to wall
Food old and moldy
Water brown as mud
Bedspring sold and rusty
Televisions as broken as the windows
Grass yellow and dry
An apple trees with no apples
Flowers dead and rotten

Stars
By: Carina Jaime
I am
Salty
Harmless
Watching over the water
Watching over the sand
Indestructible every day of the year
Cut me bad choice, ill grow again
I am soft and sweet not all the time
I’m different colors I’m shiny and bright
So say thank you to me I’m a fun
Little starfish

Muffin
The world is a muffin,
Floating in a sea of cheese.
The rain is mango soda,
And the sky was made by a sneeze.

The murder
By leo, Peter and Daniel
The Murder
Is happy
The Murder
Of Crows
Opium
Makes
Happy
Unhappy
The Murder
Of Crows
The Murder
Goes
Through and
Through
Once
The Murder
The Murder
Is not happy
The Murder
Of Ducks
Opium
Makes
But mostly
Unhappy
Which
Leads to
The Murder
Of ducks
The Murder
Through
And
Through
Life
Again
The Murder
The Murder
Is sad
The Murder
Of People
Opium
Makes
You
Sad
Unhappy
The Murder
Of people
The Murder
Through
And through
Is always and
The
Murder

A free
Place
My grandparent’s house is very significant to me. All them childhood days there eating rice with dill and lentils-and-noodles, tea every hour.
They taught me all the Farsi I know now with just talking it. Watching t.v, going for a walk-always going the same way, with all the trains passing by.
So many days, going on quests to get the candy around the house. Our childish toys I still want to play with. Wrestling my brother on the carpet. Their house, all of our warm memories.

Mr. Rabbit
Mr. Rabbit looked at his clock
Mr. Rabbit saw that he was late
Mr. Rabbit was starvingly hungry
Mr. Rabbit had not ate
Mr. Rabbit had no one to feed him
Mr. Rabbit had no mate
Mr. Rabbit stepped out of his door
Mr. Rabbit saw the neighbor he did hate
Mr. Rabbit looked at the sky
Mr. Rabbit hoped the next day, everything would be great.

i hear the young child cry
every time
thats how i feel inside
when i write just for the sake of rhyme
this is me
not spinal tap
twanging that legend guitar
way before rap
unjustified is i
no surprise
i wanna do what i wanna do
see through my eyes
people dont harass or class me
i dont see why
everyones diverse
like a black and white checkered tie
everythings going downhill
im on a never-ending slope
but when it scoops up, ill be fine
and ill just show my feelings to my small guitar amp

Penguins and Rangers
The sound of ice shredding
Bad blood
Between the two teams
Big hit
A fight breaks out
Blood on the ice
The game goes down to the wire
1 minute left the Rangers score
On a own goal
The Penguins lose.

Friends
Laying on the cool green grass
An earthy aroma of outside air
Peaceful and quiet
Just my friend and me
The long grass whispers all around us
Like friendly green wispy giants
The birds twitter
Kids play down the hill
The sunshine warms our backs
We talk about everything
Our days the school
Friends
Family
Feelings
Life
We chat about everything
Sad
Gray
Bleak and gloomy like the rolling fog
Like the forever rolling waves
Like the forlorn cry of a seagull
Gray
Not yet black
Yet not white
They are too solid and bright
Gray is heavy and deep
Gray with a tint of anything
It will turn that color sad

Far Away
Switching back and fourth
All the time
For what?
Just to take me further and further away
Away from what I want
Further from everywhere I want to be
Sometimes I wish I could stay in one moment
Can I stay a little longer?
No
I just want to be here a little more
No more
It’s time to move on
Why?
Why does it have to be like this?
Now all I feel is the will to be somewhere else
Wishing I was somewhere else
It’s not right
So wrong
All I say is…
Can I stay a little longer?
Maybe forever?
This time I want to say
This time I will
But I’ll always be further away from that one person

Sunny day miss
Sun is shinning bright and gold
Writing on a rock. the sun
Is tearing me inside because
Every sunny day it reminds me
Of how much I miss my grandpa
Because he died on a day like
This quit and hearing birds
Chirp. Even though sun is
Shinning bright and thin
It still sometimes gives me bad
Memories but that is when
I am sitting alone and
Writing how I feel! I still love my grandpa but I’m sure he is
In a better place know but
I still remember how he would sing this song to me and it went like this:
Three little monkeys
In their ruby red
Shoes never got
Them dirty you see
they always loved
them just as I
love you
I am also very happy that he survives world war two and
The fact that he had time to
Make this song for me. Even though it was so long ago
I still remember how he
Would treat me with all his heart in every way his cute wrinkled face reminds me of how much I love him

Worker Poem
A single worker scurries across the land
A very important task at hand
Climbing mountains to and fro
Working hard through sun and snow
He works all day for not a penny of pay
Just shelter and food
You might consider it crude what they do to him
Maybe he thinks so too
But no one will ever know
For now he’s found a new home
Underneath my shoe!

O
Help me
I’m a twig
I’m a twig
I’m short
I’m a twig
I’m a twig
I’m weak
I’m a twig
I’m a twig
This is mental
I quit good-bye

Alone
Alone in the dark
On a swing by the park
Waiting for someone to show
Please!! I want to go
I am like a dark dream
Like a water-less stream
I am alone!!
Sitting, Swinging, Staring, into
The darkness. All I see is the
Farness of black
Waiting until color attacks
Until Beautiful strikes
Until then this is my lonely, unhappy life
Alone!
I think, wonder, and say
But all that comes out is gray.
You may say it is depression
But to me it is a lonely session!! ☹

Place of Earth
Can
You
Feel
The
Hottest,
Wettest’
Dampest
Place
On the earth,
Where
Sand
Blows,
Trees’
Or seagull
Chat.
Sand
Dangerous
By the heat’
May
Kill
Or
All
Without
Blood
That
Stream
Like a
River.
Or trees tall or
Small
That
Spread
In the
Ground.
Provide
Shade and provide
Food,
Animal, birds, cats, monkey, or maybe pigs
Or even water
That fish swim,
Shark roam
Under sea
Giving water
Salt
Fresh
Dark
With treasure
Under
And
Danger.
These are places on earth.

The war
One against one two against two
It seems where always at war If we ever got along I never knew.
You stole my bike you took my hat
you stink you dirty rat
it doesn’t matter big or small we get in tiny wars.
The first bad word is like the first horribly bomb.
Then the second angry retort is the fire and the war begins.
We scream and we pout and shout. But why where shouting and screaming where always thinking
“why can’t we just get along.”
But no one will make the peace to afraid to be the looser of the tiny war. So the war goes on.

Words that rhyme
Ms. Marry was fairly hairy and she liked to eat cherries. She was getting married to a man named Mr. Barry who was even more hairy than marry. Their honeymoon was very scary for they met a strange man named Larry who was even more hairy than Barry or marry. What is your name he asked – no wait you look like a Cherri and you look like a Garry. No they replied I am Barry and I am marry. Why are you so hairy inquired marry. Because I am a fairy said Larry.
Be wary some people might think your crazy said Barry.

Your trunk tall

Gently moving as all the

On your beautiful blades

MOODS
From one place to another,
I am always moving
From happy
To sad
To lonely
To left out
To hurt
To brought down
To excited
To nervous
To embarrassed
To confused
To sick
To enraged
To annoyed
To tired
To anything you can name
But no matter what I feel,
My heart stays the same
Indescribable happiness and yet,pain.

O Say (National anthem)
This hurricane’s blowing us thin
This never ending swirl of American sin
Where they beg on their knees tired of strife
For one last chance…at life
This earthquake is shaking our hands
Free of life just as we started to dance
The hardest thing next to diamond rings
Is the things the country does to kill itself
As we sleep in this broken Cadillac
The world turns around and never looks back
We don’t try to sing and we don’t try to laugh
“It’s enough to make you give up,” She says.
“I know I know I know, so lets go”
